Genesis Tower v0.7 - Controller Support and Steam Deck Compatability!
Hey everyone! If you're still here and reading this, thanks for being here! It's been a long time since I last touched Genesis Tower, but I am back to provide some nice new features!
Gameplay
To make the core game loop more interesting and less about finding your way out of a maze, I have drastically cut down the size of the level to avoid navigating in circles and multiple dead ends. Finding the boss room is now much easier as a result. I've also slightly increased the odds of power ups spawning in rooms when they are cleared, so you should hopefully still be geared enough to fight the boss without too much of a challenge.
Controller Support
I've added controller support! Find out why in the next section. Now, you can switch it up any-time in game between a mouse and keyboard and a controller or gamepad to kill drones in your preferred control scheme! The help overlay has been redesigned, and new button prompts have been added that automatically switch based on your most recently-detected control method, so you'll always have the proper context on how to play.
Linux and Steam Deck Compatibility
Yeap! The game now runs on Linux, and more importantly is built natively for the Steam Deck! While it's not published on Steam, it still runs just fine if you download the Linux build and add it as a non-Steam game. It detects and uses the Steam Deck's controls via the newly implemented controller support, so now you can play this tiny project of mine anywhere On Deck.
Thank you for reading (and hopefully playing) Genesis Tower!
